Is healthy lifestyle the best cure?
I hope you are all well and this period of confinement isn’t too much strain.
I am also at home, just like you, following current French rules and can see that by finding ourselves with restricted freedom one may think that we do not have much influence on events, yet our field of action still remains substantial.
Apart from following all the instructions, including social distancing, I would encourage you to be particularly attentive to our lifestyle, in order to take care of ourselves and as much as possible, boost our immune system, which is ultimately our first line of protection.
For this I would like to share with you a message that I received from an exceptional yoga teacher, Krishna Verma Ji, so that you can also benefit from his advices. I found them particularly relevant and very precise, like the part where are listed the spices and their exact daily quantities.
“TIPS FOR BOOSTING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM by Krishan Verma ji
- Do cardio exercise followed by asanas, a minimum of 45 minutes daily, five days a week.
- Get good sleep, 6-7 hours daily.
- Eat healthy vegetarian balanced meals.
- Don’t go hungry for too long. Carry healthy snacks with you.
- Cook at home.
- Eat 4-6 prunes daily for a proper bowel movement
- Drink 1.5-2 liters 0f water daily.
Some of the immunity booster spices/roots/seeds/foods are given below with daily dosage which can be added to your food.
- Garlic, 1-2 cloves
- Ginger, 1/2 teaspoon grated
- Red onion, 1/4 cup cut pieces
- Red chili pepper, 1/4 teaspoon crushed or small pieces
- Cloves, 3-4 pieces
- Saffron, 12-15 strands (I add it in warm almond milk)
- Turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon
- Pumpkin seeds, 2 teaspoons

Do you know well turmeric? It’s a must have, one of the spices I use on a daily basis. It has powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties and its therapeutic activity is increased tenfold in the presence of pepper.
I also recommend the turmeric tea to strengthen the immune system. Once prepared, I pour it into a thermos and serve in small doses during the day.
"Ingredients per person:
- 1/2 liter of water
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1-2 peppercorns
- 1/2 cm fresh ginger (grated)
Preparation: Bring everything to a boil and let simmer for 5 minutes. Drink 3 cups (3 x 150 ml) daily with meals (or in between). If you like, you can also dilute the tea with water."
These tips are simple and easy to follow, they are related to the consumption of natural products and a healthy lifestyle. Perhaps in order to overcome the pandemic, the key to success goes through prevention, which I think is not enough talked about. Let’s consider if it is not much easier to establish and follow a healthy lifestyle than to be cured once ill.
